As someone who is more or less virtual - in that the majority of my business life is on the web (my laptop) - it's only natural that my first line of contact is via email.
I love email because it allows me to keep track of things, get things done on time, and make sure I get back to people in a timely and relevant manner. I always aim to respond to people within 24 hours, if not faster.
Strangely, I don't like phones much - particularly mobile ones - as they tend to interrupt me.
